In every listing the groom's name is shown first, then the bride's. This transcription of the Brazos County marriage books was compiled from several sources including the 1996 Texas Research Ramblers and 1955 William Scott Chapter, DAR transcriptions. The Brazos County marriage listings were also checked for some conflicting items. Researchers should use this compilation as a finding aid and whenever possible check the original marriage record. About these listings

Sources. This transcription of the Brazos County marriage books (Marriage Record Books A, B, C, D, E, F, G-1 and G-2) was compiled from several sources including the 1996 Texas Research Ramblers and 1955 William Scott Chapter, DAR, transcriptions. The Brazos County marriage listings were also checked for some conflicting items. Researchers should use this compilation as a finding aid and whenever possible check the original marriage record. Links referenced may be found in the Marriages section on the Research and Sources page of this site.

How to search. Type any part of a groom's or bride's name. You can also type a book and page (such as B-177), a year, or an officiant's name. When you type more than one word, every word must match. If nothing matches exactly, the closest spellings are shown. Choose a book to browse it by groom's surname, by bride's surname, or in book page order, the order the records were entered in the marriage book.

Groom first. Every listing shows the groom's name first and the bride's name second, whether the original index was sorted by the groom's or the bride's name. If there is ever a question about which person is which, the first name shown is always the groom. Names are as printed. Spellings are kept as they appear in the source, including apparent misspellings, so try variant spellings. The same marriage is sometimes listed twice under two spellings of a name; both listings are shown. Titles such as Miss and Mrs. are kept with the first name when the source printed them, and a blank surname means none was printed.

Book and page. A citation such as B-177 means Marriage Record Book B, page 177. Books G-1 and G-2 appear as G1 and G2. A record that runs onto a second page shows both, for example "B-105; B-106".

Dates. Dates are shown as year-month-day. A partial date is shown as printed, and a date that looks wrong in the original is kept as printed. "No marriage date recorded" means the index gave none, and "[license]" in the notes marks a license whose marriage return is missing or uncertain (the original key defines it as the date the license was issued). The date the marriage license was recorded may be found using the Brazos County Marriage Records online search.

Ages, residences and designations. Ages and residences appear only where the source printed them, which is mostly in Books C and D. Designations such as (fwc) and (fmc) are historical register notations, reproduced exactly as printed.

DAR license dates (Books A and B). For Books A and B, the license date comes from the 1955 William Scott Chapter, DAR, transcription. Where the DAR marriage date differs from the index, both dates are shown for researchers to investigate, and neither has been corrected. A marriage date earlier than the license date is flagged as a probable register error and shown as recorded. About 140 listings carry such a note. DAR dates have not yet been added for Books C through G-2. John M. Mauck and Annie W. Lloyd (B-297) appear in the DAR transcription but not in the printed index, so that listing was added from the DAR.

Abbreviations. Officiant titles and register notations appear as abbreviated in the source. Books A through D print a key, reproduced below as printed; Books E through G-2 print none.

The original publications do not explain them, so they are reproduced as printed and not interpreted here. J.P. and M. appear to carry the same meanings given for Books A through D.

Please verify. This is a finding aid, not a substitute for the original record. The index volumes were each transcribed from page images and checked against a second index (by groom and by bride) to catch errors, but mistakes may remain. Please confirm anything important against the original marriage record.
